Hot off the presses is a new and delightful children's book series featuring McDuff, a little white terrier who falls off a truck and into the lives of his new family, Lucy and Fred.

Award-winning author/illustrator team Rosemary Wells and Susan Jeffers used their own West Highland white terriers, Lucy and McIvor, as the models and inspiration for McDuff.

"The McDuff stories are about much more than the adoption of a stray dog. It's a story of mutual love and respect between a dog and his family. Animals give us so much, and we must treat them with respect -- Fred and Lucy understand McDuff's needs and appreciate all the love he has brought into their home," says Jeffers.

Author Wells said, "Lucy has played many roles in my books. But this time with McDuff, she appears just as herself. From the moment Susan walked into my home with a camera, Lucy began to pose for many of the McDuff illustrations. She somehow knew that this would lead to the icebox and a piece of cold chicken."

"McIvor not only has an irresistible face," Jeffers said of her West Highland white terrier, "but love just pours out of him. The expression in his eyes says 'pick me up, love me, and I will love you right back.' And that's McDuff!"

In the first book, McDuff Moves In (April 1997), the plucky little terrier searches for a home -- and eventually finds a warm and loving one with Fred and Lucy.

In McDuff Comes Home (April 1997), McDuff leaves the security of Fred and Lucy's garden to chase a rabbit -- and gets lost. With incredible dog telepathy and the help of a lady who understands dog language, McDuff finds his way home.

Rosemary Wells is an award-winning author and illustrator of more than 50 books for children, including the Max and Ruby series, the Edward the Unready books, and a new collection of Mother Goose nursery rhymes.

Susan Jeffers has illustrated many acclaimed books, including the best-selling Brother Eagle, Sister Sky and Lassie Come-Home (with Rosemary Wells). Her illustrations for The Three Jovial Huntsmen earned her a Caldecott Honor Award.
