News Leads Distribution Service -- The Why and the What

Bombarded.

Overwhelmed.

Unable to digest it all.

This is what most of us feel in reaction to the growing number of communications we receive daily.

That we are living in "overly communicated to" societies is substantiated in many writings. Must reading on this very subject is Positioning: The Battle For Your Mind," by Al Ries and Jack Trout. If you have ever wrestled with how to improve your marketing, publicity or PR efforts, this book should be on your bookshelf, but only after its pages are quite worn.

To deal with picture and printed word overload, humans unconsciously turn on cerebral filters. We digest only a small portion of the communications beamed at us daily. We sift. We reject much, not even hearing it.

Journalists Are Bombarded Daily, Too
The lifeblood for those in the media is news and information. But journalists are as human as you and I. Like you, they are also dealing with overcommunication. It is very real. Ask any journalist to recall the news release you mailed. Ask a journalist the heighth of the news releases in their in-box. Ask them to estimate the number of faxes they receive, the phone calls, the wire service feeds. It may shock you.

An important first step in garnering coverage is to get noticed. When the mental sponge is saturated, one way to drip a bit more information into it is through selectivity and simplification. Rather than providing more, provide less. It is for this reason that one of the tools in our arsenal is our News Leads Distribution Service.

We Increase Your Story's Chance To Be Read
We help journalists digest more story possibilities by emailing them one news advisory containing many brief news leads or, in other words, story tips. It's simple for them to peruse it quickly. Instead of 40 pages of paper from 20 news releases, they scan one page with 20 carefully written tips.

Monthly distribution Only to Media who Want the Advisories
Each subject-based news advisory is distributed by email twice each month. No more than 20 leads is allowed in an advisory. Our list is comprised only of media persons who want to receive the advisories. These are journalists looking for story ideas and wanting to receive ideas using this method.

Write Your News Lead Carefully. We Can Help, Too
You may write your copy yourself or, for an additional fee, have us write it. How a news lead is written is important. It should be crafted to attract the media person's attention. It should be mindful of media needs. Our guidelines elaborate on how to write a news lead effectively.

Sending of the News Lead Several Times Encouraged
We require that each story tip be carried twice in consecutive issues of our News Advisory. Our fee reflects this requirement. We recommend that you do two flights, which results in the story lead being sent four times. You may revise your copy prior to each mailing and we encourage you to do so. It must be submitted, though, before the deadline.

Two Subject Areas Online Now.... More Coming.
We currently have brought online News Leads Distribution Services for two categories of media. One category is pets/animals. The other is travel/tourism. We will bring other categories online over time.

Be Prepared Should Media Ask You For More Information.
If your story suggestion interests a journalist, he or she will want more information -- usually the full news release. Most certainly, they will need information on how to contact you or the source. We have services to help you: autoresponders as well as copywriting services.
